You may remember that I interviewed Emmy Hiekamp from Dutch Cargo Bikes on the blog recently about her business. Her vision for cargo bikes was that they would be used by families in Australia, in the same way that they are commonplace in places like Denmark and the Netherlands.

This lady doesn’t rest on her laurels! Emmy is organising a fun gathering of the cargo bike community in Melbourne next Sunday 21 November at Garden City Reserve, Port Melbourne.

Joining Dutch Cargo Bikes will be Cargocycles, Gazelle (who make the Cabby), Christiana bikes from PS Bikes and the convertible pram-bikes from Zigo and Taga.

The free event is for owners of cargo bikes to get together and a chance for people who are interested or curious about cargo bikes to have a whole bunch of bikes to see and test-ride in one go. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions of the retailers as well as the people who use the bikes as part of their every day life. Find out how you can reduce your daily carbon footprint and reduce your dependency on your car.

There will be a fenced picnic area, a cool playground for the kids, a coffee machine cargo bike and an obstacle course! You just have to BYO picnic.

Now that I am a proud owner of a Taga I’ll be able to go along! Hope to see you there (my Taga’s bright green, can’t miss it!). If you come and say hi I’ll even give you a go on my bike :–)
